UFC superstar Conor McGregor recently claimed to have been in negotiations for a boxing bout against Logan Paul in India. The news sent the MMA world into a frenzy and garnered reactions from multiple quarters.

In addition to combat sports pundits and fans, a former UFC referee, John McCarthy also weighed in on the possibility of the bout.

McCarthy pointed toward McGregor's current engagement with the UFC and the promotion's role in deciding the future of the fight. He dismissed the online back-and-forth between McGregor and Paul as "speculation" while calling for Dana White's involvement in the fight. McCarthy claimed that McGregor's contract with the promotion wouldn't allow him to fight without the company's assent.

In a conversation with Josh Thomson on their podcast Weighing In #531, McCarthy said:

"You gotta have Dana white come to the table with this because, Conor is under contract under UFC. He ain't doing d**k if the UFC says no. UFC has to agree and allow him to go and box Logan Paul."

McCarthy further added:

"Logan Paul is kind of part of as you said the whole TKO group since he's with WWE and Conor's with the UFC and both owned by the TKO group and all that... Maybe... You know anything can happen but before anything happens, I wanna hear Dana say yeah we're gonna allow... Okay now I believe it possibly can happen, until I hear that it's like speculation."

McGregor has remained out of action since 2021 after suffering a broken leg in his last fight against Dustin Poirier. Despite speculations of his comeback, 'Notorious' hasn't been booked for a fight in the UFC.

When Conor McGregor faced the boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Conor McGregor's speculated boxing bout with Logan Paul won't be the first time for him to compete inside the squared circle. 'Notorious' locked horns with the boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017 in his first professional boxing showdown.

The duo faced each other in a 12-round bout in the super welterweight weight bracket. The Irishman couldn't last the extent of the fight and lost by a 10th-round TKO to Mayweather Jr. The fight was the 50th and the last professional boxing bout of the American boxer who retired with a record of 50-0.
